Our privacy guarantee
- We do not read, scan, index or analyse the contents of your files or photos.
- We do not build advertising profiles from your account and we do not sell or rent your data.
- Files you mark Private are scrambled on your own device before upload. We hold no copy of your PIN or recovery code and cannot open those files.
- No outside app or service can reach your files unless you grant it a named permission, and you can remove that permission at any time.
- We only ask for an email address and password to run your account.
- If we are ever legally compelled to hand over stored data, Private files can only be handed over in their unreadable form.
Payout conditions
- Who can claim
- Any account holder in good standing at the time of the incident, who filed within 60 days of File-A-Cloud publishing notice of the event.
- What triggers a payout
- An independently verified incident, caused by File-A-Cloud's own failure, that exposed the readable contents of files you stored with us, or that exposed Private files in readable form.
- Individual amount
- Documented, direct losses, assessed case by case, up to the individual cap published in the final terms.
- Total amount
- An aggregate maximum of $1,000,000 across all approved claims arising from a single qualifying event.
- Shared cap
- If approved claims exceed the aggregate maximum, payouts are reduced proportionally so that every approved claimant receives a share.
- Decision time
- A written decision within 45 days of a complete claim, and payment within 30 days of approval.
How a claim works
- 1
Notice
File-A-Cloud publishes notice of a verified qualifying event and emails affected account holders.
- 2
File
You submit a claim with your account email, the affected items and evidence of direct loss.
- 3
Review
An independent reviewer assesses the claim; we may ask for more evidence once.
- 4
Decision and payment
You receive a written decision, and approved amounts are paid directly by File-A-Cloud.
File it in a few minutes on the claims and payout schedule page, or email pledge@fileacloud.com from the address on your account.

Fill this in and you get a claim reference straight away. We never open your files as part of a claim — you tell us which items were affected.
Names only. Never paste the contents of a private file here — we cannot read your files and do not want copies of them.
What is not covered
- Standard-protection files exposed by a breach of a third-party provider rather than File-A-Cloud.
- A PIN or recovery code you lost, forgot, wrote down insecurely or gave to someone else.
- Links, passwords or decrypted copies you chose to share.
- A compromised device, browser, email account or SIM belonging to the claimant.
- Exports or access granted by you to another app or person.
- Unlawful use of the service, or content you had no right to store.
- Indirect, consequential, reputational or speculative loss.
- War, sanctions, government seizure and other force majeure events.
- Any claim that cannot be independently verified with evidence.
Legal standing
This pledge is a voluntary commitment funded from File-A-Cloud's own resources. It is not a regulated insurance product, and no third-party insurer stands behind it. Payments are limited to the amounts stated above and to funds File-A-Cloud has available. File-A-Cloud may update this pledge for future events, and will give 30 days' notice of any change; the version in force on the date of an incident is the version that applies to it. Nothing here reduces rights you already have under the consumer or data-protection law of your own country.
Effective date
These terms are published as File-A-Cloud's intended policy. They take legal effect on the effective date File-A-Cloud publishes on this page after final company approval. Until that date, treat the amounts above as a stated intention rather than an active, enforceable payout scheme.
