Sharing files
How to share files securely
Create password-protected links that expire on their own and can be revoked at any time.
- 1Open the file's menu and choose Share.
- 2Add a password if you like, and choose when the link should expire (by default 24 hours).
- 3Copy the link and send it. Send the password separately, for example by text message.
- 4To change the end time, open the Sharing center and use Set expiry on that link.
- 5To stop access immediately, press Revoke in the Sharing center.
Share links always start with https://fileacloud.com/s/. Every open is counted, so you can see how often a link was used.
Private files are decrypted on your device before sharing, using a key that is added to the link itself. The key part of the link is never sent to File-A-Cloud's servers.
Frequently asked questions
Can I make a link that never expires?
Yes — choose Never in Set expiry — but links with an end date are safer, and the privacy score rewards them.
What happens when I revoke a link?
It stops working straight away. Any download already in progress has at most 30 seconds left before it ends.
Can someone send files to me without an account?
Yes. In the Sharing center create a private file request. People with that link can upload to the folder you choose but cannot see anything else.
